New MOT rules
#1
Hi All,
Anyone seen the new MOT test rules? Just spotted on AOL. One of the new rules appears to state that if a car was fitted with a Cat converter as standard when new it will need said Cat in place to pass the MOT.

Anyone know any more details on this?

Darren C has already carefully investigated this and his results were:-

Quote:To save you forging documents you can just beat them at their own game.

Here’s some bed time reading (the MOT Testers guide from VOSA for the changes in 2012.)

http://mottesters.co.uk/files/special%2 ... Manual.pdf

To save your eyes bleeding and your brains exploding this is what you need to know.

Section 7.1, note 3:

“on vehicles that qualify for a full CAT emissions test, check for the presence of a Catalytic converter”

The key words here are “that qualify for a full CAT emissions test”

Refer to:

Section 7.3, page 2, para 4:

“Early catalyst equipped vehicles may not require a CAT test.”

Ok still with me….

Section 7.3, page 4, sub section “CAT Test” para 1:

“The catalyst test is part of MOT test for most spark ignition petrol engined vehicles first used on or after 1st August 1992.”

Eureka.

Delorean before 01/08/1992 = No CAT Test.
Delorean does not qualify for CAT emissions test, therefore presence of CAT is not part of check

So to conclude, you have nothing to worry about Big Grin

Cheers for the info Chris. I had a feeling it would not apply. Smile
