US barn find - under 1000 miles
#1
Vin 4659, Manual, Grey interior, Red paint.

For those looking at the import route, this does look like a very well preserved barn find. If the dealer did paint it then all the usual concerns dissipate.

I love this little detail: " There is a cassette in the player. It plays. Its a tape of H20 Daryl Hall and John Oates from 1982. I left the tape in there."

I would say that this looks to be a good one. But as a rule of thumb, we normally say a painted one is worth 30% less than a regular one.

Interestingly enough, there was a Hall and Oates tape stuck in the tape deck of my DeLorean when it arrived, and she's also a 4000 series VIN.

I like that.
Although don't like the vagueness like "I'm not sure of brakes, as I only drove it a few miles because of blah blah". Nonsense, you know how good the brakes work pretty damn quickly.
Be interesting to see what the reserve is set at.

Oh there was ' The Tucker band' tape left in mine. From song titles it looks like 'good-old-country' music!

This car was sold on eBay last November for $48,000 (That's US Dollars too). Actually it didn't sell if it's being relisted and to be honest the bidding activity looks a bit suspicious above 30k. Still a lot of interest generated with this one back in the fall.

I can say one thing about it, it shows extremely well in the pictures. One of the things that appealed to me was the bare stainless but seeing this one makes me realize that a properly painted DeLorean(that means leaving all the black bits black) does do a certain amount of justice to the car. Who knows what might have happened had the company survived a few more years, this could have been what the '84 models looked like.

I have to admit to really liking the red! If one imported this to the UK, how much tax/duty would one have to pay? Ive been reading about the DTI 5% scheme - does this apply to Deloreans? I'm thinking about becoming a 2-delorean family. Shock

Hmmmmmm, You're probably right Mike, although 5% rules do state must not be altered from standard. Does this qualify?

It was this car a year ago: http://www.beverlyhillscarclub.com/1981 ... c-2374.htm came into the UK for just over 7k (was a bargain) I have no idea what it was like underneath the paint. I advised the buyer to leave as was but he sold it on very quickly.

Wow if really 'mechanically sound' that's worth a punt all day long. Be worth that in bits wouldn't it?
I'm liking these painted cars more & more.

Yes, kicked myself daily for the last year for missing it myself. Mind would have been tempted to leave it painted myself 8)

Hi Guys,
Club member for a couple of months & first time poster.
You will be pleased to learn that I am the new owner of the red 4659 & all thing being equal it will begin its journey home next week. Expect to see it (& me) in the Surreyy/Sussex areas this year, very excited.
