It's completely true though, I have to be honest with myself You get used to what you have had and when you go for a classic with less performance it will be extremely noticeable. I'll be sure to come to an event if I get one, something different to the Japanese scene. I used to like the 944 Turbo for the more reserved classic shows.

Lol, that's some nice numbers! That must be purely for the strip? Micky Ts, parachute, and wheelie bar jobbie is it..?

Clearly, anything but a straight line perfect conditions etc. to get all that down? I'll take a read when I get to a PC tomorrow, sounds amazing!

Of course, there's always a faster car out there, but I'm talking about road cars. Stuff like 911 GT3, R8, Nissan GTR, M3s, common Ferraris etc.

944s are truly amazing. They're superior to the newer breed of Porsches. Speed isn't everything, hence my love of classics at a relatively young age and the search for a Delorean.

I'm very confused about these posts. On one hand, I'm not impressing anyone (not really my intention, just discussing cars and options, which is the intention of car forums surely..?) and that high performance is frowned up as "piston heads forum member" nonsense, then it transpires that both you guys have fast cars and have worn the shirts "threadbare"... We al know very well what that means. (Also, let's not forget the 'burds'. I'm fairly sure I heard something similar from some chavs on the way to a Maccys cruise in a Corsa years back) Then on the other hand, you're a certain type of classic car owner that turns their nose up at any type of spirited driving in the next post.

THE single most confusing thread I have ever read.

Not meant to be rude Luke. It's just frank banter. The reference to "burds" is a Scottish thing, not just a Chav thing (I'm Scottish) and everything I said, is in jest. My g/f would say I'm amply endoud. It was just a light hearted way of saying this is a DeLorean forum, and I'm here to talk DeLoreans. No offense meant. Take it as it was intended, with a pinch of salt. You're too trigger happy, waiting to receive insult, I think. If you ever meet me, you'll see I'm not a bad bloke (at least I'm told I'm generally well liked)

bottom line for me (getting back to derriers again), as a 40 something stay at home mummy,
is that after 10yrs, my De, to me, is a car, a mode of transport, that gets me from A-B when
funds allow.

If I want to drive it a bit spirited if the road conditions allow, then I'll happily drop
it down a cog or two, or, if like today (I was doing a wedding in Nottingham), then I was in more
of a 'pose mode', and kept a good distance in traffic, didnt go too fast, and grinned to myself
everytime someone, with their jaw heading pavement bound stopped and pointed at the car or
evertime I saw a cameraphone pointing at the car from a car behind me.

I guess after all these years, sometimes I forget that many people have never seen a DeLorean
before, and I find their reactions quite funny - I forget sometimes that I've spent 1/4 of my life
around them (jeez, I feel old now!! lol)

Anyway lads, keep it friendly, and FWIW, I'm on Piston Heads too and have made some very good
friends through the site

I think also, with any increase in HP on a DeLorean, it goes without saying
that you may want to ensure the braking system, etc, is up to handling the
extra power, especially if you are going 200hp +

Luke, if extra power - and I mean a serious amount of extra power - is what
you are planning for your De, then talk to Martin, as he's spent many years
working on various performance options for the car, and can probably point you
in the right direction.

Thanks Claire. Rissy and RichH both got a taste of my current project a week ago. I think they both thought it wasn't for them though!

The PRV isn't a bad engine, just the original delorean version is a bit embarrassing. It's well known DMC wanted to go twin turbo very soon. In fact DMC were developing theirs at the same time as Renault. The Renault one made it into a car in 1984

I picked up a mint Volvo 760 engine for £135 over the weekend - that's the later EFI engine with the best flowing heads & manifold, largest throttle, most agressive cams, crossbolted journals and uprated liners. With a set of pistons, that'll make a very good 2.8 turbo one day.
