Stupid question, but how are those plates attached? How do get behind the fibre glass to put a nut on the end of the bolts?

thats what i replaced mine with mike, and i also extended them to come in further TT

yeah, i have those and started to work to instal them, but the existing bolts snapped in the backing plat as you can see in my first picture (you can see the corner of one of the new brackets in the second picture

There's a cavity behind the fibreglass that can be accessed above the headliner in the car. you have to dig out some rubber filler:





poor picture, but you get the idea.

I'm going to try and build the fibreglass up to that it's flat and I can mount the bracket properly.

As daft as it sounds I think at one point one of the vendors was selling replacement door gas struts that where
actually fractionally too long. This meant when you closed the door the strut couldn't compress any more and
it flexed the ball mount.

not sure if this is true, but it was a rumour that floated around for a while and was blamed for damaged to the
strut mounting on many cars.

this is what broke on Sorbet a while back - Phill did a 'how to fix' in one of
the previous DOC Mags IIRC.

He got the bits off Dave Howarth.

I just replaced my struts with a new set from Ed Uding, they are the stuff of dreams.

My doors now open effortlessly beckoning me inside
