importing charges from USA - wodan - 21 Oct 2014 Hi can anyone tell me how much import duty and vat needs to be paid to import a DMC from the USA..? rgds Wodan Re: importing charges from USA - mknowlton - 21 Oct 2014 Yes, I can answer this as I just paid mine. The VAT was 5% of the purchase price of the vehicle plus 5% of the shipping cost The duty was zero rated I believe because the car was originally manufactured in the UK. To ensure that you get these lower rates you should get your vehicle importer to make sure that they submit the necessary forms to HMRC before or at least whilst the vehicle is in transit. I hope this helps Mike Re: importing charges from USA - ali66 - 22 Oct 2014 Mine came from Chicago. This is what I paid in June 2014 for door to door shipping to Essex: Shipping Door to Door £1,400 Marine Insurance £170 Customs Handling £195 Import VAT £850 Re: importing charges from USA - wodan - 23 Oct 2014 hi Alex thanks for your reply did you manage to get the 5% historic vat app;ied (BTI)...? did your import run smoothly and did you buy unseen rgds geoff |
