Looks like I'll need a new drivers side door lock... - jwrayth - 18 Oct 2013

...as some **cker has tried to break into my car! Drivers side door lock is decimated, scratched all around the lock where they've obviously tried to force it open.

I keep it parked in "secure" indoor parking with 24-hour CCTV though, so here's hoping that they caught footage of the **ckwit and I can get him. Removed the battery and some other bits for now in-case they decide to come back and have a second go...

6 months down in England and not a problem, three and a bit weeks in Edinburgh and it's attempted break-in. Might have to put the cat by-pass aside whilst I add some more security to it!

Really sorry to hear that, might be worth trying Dave Howarth for a new one, never will understand htese type of people, if you get any good CCTV post it up so we can try and name and shame.

what a bummer mate, hopefully the CCTV will be of good enough quality for the Police to see the
numpty in action.

In addition to a good alarm with a loud siren, I'd recommend a good tracking system too just incase
it does go walkies (but hopefully it wont).

I've seen too many stolen car posts on facebook this year, mostly VW buses/campers, but also Jag
E-Types, Mk1/Mk2 Escorts, etc, so best be safe then sorry.

IIRC the door locks are the same as a Metro, hopefully you're existing lock barrel isnt too badly damaged
so you can make a good lock assembly out of a spare and your current lock.

Annoying and depressing that someone would try that. On the plus side putting an alarm and/or tracker in might get you a discount on your insurance.

Alarm wont. Tracker might.

Door locks are off a Rover/Austin Metro, readily available on eBay.

Is the ignition assembly from a Metro too? Would be nice to keep mine as a 1-key system rather than having separate door/ignition keys...

Oh dear, how unfortunate, little sods!

Re, ignition switch, I don't think so, but I believe thay are off something British of that era, Rover SD1 or Range Rover perhaps?

Perhaps have a look at Rimmers

http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/

and see what they have to offer.

IF it is Rover SD1 it seems:

or
http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-JRC5338

The machanism looks similar. The reason I state these as possibles is that the steering column is very similar as are the control stalks and even the adjuatable steering column wheel...

But not sure if you would be able to get these keyed to match the door...

The SD1 barrel can be used on the DeLorean but isn’t an exact match. The door locks only use the first 4 tumblers IIRC which is why some keys open more than one car (but wouldn’t be able to start it). It’s a very standard key design so any locksmith can re-key a new set of door locks to the original ignition key.
