SunStar Models - And what they're made of ! - Birksie - 11 Jan 2007 Right, I did hear somewhere that someone was interested in what these SunStar model were made of, and more importantly are they true to life and made from Stainless Steel grade 304, or 18/8 as its known in the trade. The quick answer is no. The long answer is here: Using my XRF-Analyzer, shown here: I gathered my subjects up ready for testing: Gun in position: Pulled the trigger, and proceeded to bombard my skull with lethal Xrays. And there you have it. Mostly Nickle, Zinc and Copper, with slither traces of Cobalt, Iron and Chrome. Could be plated, so results may not be that accurate. Unless someone wants to donate a model for me to grind away ! Zinc plated Copper Nickle is what your cars are made of in my opinion. - MikeH - 11 Jan 2007 :o shame, still want a set tho :o - Martyn - 11 Jan 2007 Very good.I like that. There's nothing like getting to the bottom of a "I wonder"  - Birksie - 12 Jan 2007 I also had to check the real car just out of curiosity. And it is indeed, a good grade of SS304. Pointless really, but there ya go. - Martyn - 12 Jan 2007 Have you got any pictures of this, like the model cars.  - Tourettes Tony - 12 Jan 2007 Birksie Wrote:I also had to check the real car just out of curiosity. Thought i was doing well getting a multimeter.... Maybe now we can confirm our D's really are made of aluminium - Birksie - 12 Jan 2007 LOL I'll post some pictures tomorrow when I get to come home in the daylight ! Boz: Stick with your multimeter dude, they're much cheaper. £27,980.00 cheaper ! - dmcdj - 12 Jan 2007 nice toy paul when you getting me one pal - NickT - 12 Jan 2007 Try not to drop or sit on it then  - Guinney1971 - 12 Jan 2007 ok, sad git time...........I even noticed that they've replicated the X on the bonnet! I'll go and put my anorak away now...... - Birksie - 12 Jan 2007 I fell in a pile of scrap metal whilst holding it one day, and rather than guard my face and body from the shards of laser sharp metal scrap, I fell holding the gun with both hands, clear in the air. :? Ouch. - Chris P - 13 Jan 2007 I think you will find they are ordinary "die cast" metal, that has been flash copper plated then Nickel plated, then brushed and poisibly dipped in a water based laquer. Chrispy.. - Jonny Jones - 13 Jan 2007 Awesome 'little' gun you have there mate! Shame, looks so much like Stainless! - Birksie - 14 Jan 2007 Cheers for that Chris. I knew you'd speak up about that one Hope you're well. Will pay a visit in a month or so. |
