Re: For sale at auction - Guinney1971 - 25 Apr 2011

hi Chris, be good to see this car restored and back on the road.

Sounds like a horrible accident to befall your neighbour.

As for pics, open an account (free) with an image hosting site like Photobucket,
then upload the pics onto it from your pc. It will then give you an 'img' link
which you just copy and paste onto the forum to put your piccies on here.

Re: For sale at auction - Matt Clark - 25 Apr 2011

I should be at the unloading tomorrow so I'll get some pics and post them if it's ok by Chris.

I like to think I did VIN 510 justice Wink

A quick update on vin 522. ( i'd got this vin number one wrong I always thought is was 769) Anyway, its back home safe and sound, it was filthy!

First the good points, although I have not yet finished checking underneath properly, this seems to be where the time and money have been spent. New tyres, on nicely re-painted ( filthy) wheels, new brake discs, pads etc. The stainless, although still partly covered in 25 year peeling laquer, it very stright. The seats and interior have been re-covered ( years ago) in red/ black. The effect and quailty is very nice and I will be keeping that look. The engine cover and louvers are excellent. The engine oil is lovely and clean.

Now the bad bits, the engine dosent ( yet) run, (its filthy also). The w/screan is badly cracked, the l/h sliding window is missing, Wipers missing, the exhaust and brackets are rotten/missing, as is the front bumper. The steering lock and door locks have been chiseled off. The hearlights are scrap with some fixings missing, the air con rad is damaged, and the pipe have been chopped off. The roof ariel is broken /missing. The carpets are litteraly rotten and dropping to bits, as is the cargo net. The window swicthes, mounting pannel, clock are all damaged and or non standard. The origanal radio is missing and I suspect the mounting bracket has been chopped. Most of the steel bolts holding the stainless pannels are heavily rusty. The drivers door mechanism has rotted to bits. Etc etc!

I have either got the bits in stock, or have located them via Dave. I am not in the least daunted by the project, indeed I have already got stuck in, and am very happy with the price I paid. Its got loads of History and photo's going back 25 years. Still only done less than 30K miles, with all old MOT's.

When its finished, it will not be concourse as it will be used regularily, it will be a tribute to its former owner, Des, it will refect most of his modifications with a few of my own!

Matt will be uploding some photo's soon.

The car as it arrived at Chris':

The driver's door was kept closed by hooking the door lanyard over the handbrake - kind of ingenious, I thought.

Peeling laquer:

As Chris mentioned, some rust:

...and some moss too! Imagine if the panels hadn't been stainless...

Lowering it down - I got to steer, I think this counts as my first experience driving a D?

Almost...

Home!

The rear fascia was held on with one zip tie.

The interior looked like a bomb had gone off in there but cleaned up really very quickly. The quality of the leatherwork was very impressive, handling the door cards/glove box lids showed just how nicely done it was.

The RHD lights / numberplate mouldings were in very good condition, this was a quick test fit after cleaning down the louvres and the fascia and they were basically spotless. All the unlaquered stainless cleaned up nicely, too.

Matt,

I like the distinction between your "Photo's" and my "snaps"! ........proffesional photographers!

(can someone tell me how to turn the spell checker on please?)

Haha, no distinction inferred; just didn't want to keep saying "photo" over and over again Smile

Re: For sale at auction - Domi - 01 May 2011

I like the doors graphics, never seen one of them before.

Re: For sale at auction - Guinney1971 - 01 May 2011

door graphics look very 80's, never seen those before either.

Looks a good project you've got there Chris, will have to venture over soon and
have a butchers Smile

Re: For sale at auction - TristanC - 01 May 2011
